ECO-FEMINISM

What is Eco-feminism? What it has to do with Transition?
These and many other questions were around when we hosted a Transition Discussion under that theme, on Thursday 28th June 2012.
After that discussion (around 2 hours) many people felt it was important to carry on discussing and understanding the connections between environmental issues and feminism/gender equality.
A discussion group was set up and it run for 2 years; it organised autonomously but with the support of Transition Plymouth.
This discussion group doesn't exist anymore but it catapulted other projects. Details below.
PLYMOUTH ECO-FEMINISM Discussion Group (Archives)
THIS GROUP DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE BUT YOU CAN GET INVOLVED/INFORMED ON ECO-FEMINIST DISCUSSIONS THROUGH THE NEW INITIATIVE: Plymouth Women's Network.
About
This discussion group affiliates with the Transition aims and principles. We meet regularly to explore the feminist principles in its relation to environmental causes, as well as patriarchy, matriarchy, gender equality and its relevance on today's social and ecological change.
Men, women and anyone in between are more than welcome to our meet ups. We always try to find child-friendly venues, so mothers can have more opportunities to participate.
Our discussions are announced in the Transition Plymouth mailing list and we decide together on dates, special events, etc.
Special Events
On Friday 8th March 2013, we organized a public celebration for International Women's Day! We talked, we ate and we sang! Here the poster of the day. Thanks to Jocelyne, Dawn, Paula and Anairda for their artistic contributions!

Video on Eco-feminism
At one of our discussions we watched a short video that explains all the the different aspects of Eco-feminism, made by writer and filmmaker Greta Gaard. It is a great introduction to the subject. Have a look and share it!
