DAY EVENTS

These are public events of two hours or longer, usually on a Saturday. They explore themes that cannot be discussed in a single night of "Transition Discussions", due to their complexity.
The Day Events require more organization and research, so sometimes we create working groups - with volunteers within and outside Education group - to help planning and delivering each one.
NEXT DAY EVENT:
"MEDITATION for LIFE on EARTH"
a public, guided meditation on Sunday 8th June
Transition Plymouth recognises the importance of supporting the “inner process” as part of the transition to a sustainable and healthy future. “Inner transition" refers to our very personal struggles and the ways to address them, when facing the changes we urgently need to make, in order to adapt and create solutions in this climate and economic crisis.
To commemorate "World Environment Day" (on 5th June), the Transition Education Group would like to invite you all to a collective "Mediation for Life on Earth", open to everyone, independently of their level of experience with this method.
Meditation is a beautiful and practical way of achieving inner peace, reducing stress and finding solutions to the problems of daily life. This guided meditation will help people to experience a moment of re-connection with themselves, and with the rest of life on our planet. We will have the support of experienced Buddhist Ian Kavanagh, from the Plymouth Ashoka Buddhist Centre, who has kindly agreed to guide us.
We will meet on Sunday 8th June, at 10am, to start 10:30am, at the lawn / piece of grass of Armada Way & Citadel road, in front of the “Holiday Inn” hotel - on the way to the Hoe.
If it's raining, we will meet at the Roland Levinsky building of the Plymouth University instead.
FREE event open to everyone. Please bring a little cushion or mat for your comfort when sat.
About our guide – Ian Kavanagh is an active Buddhist member of the Plymouth Ashoka Kadampa Buddhist Centre.

Other Day Events, we are or have organized:
WHAT IS TRANSITION? - a 4 hour event in December 2011, where we showed a short film and presentation on Peak Oil & the Transition movement, and then opened a public dialogue about what the attendees' perspective was about all that.
We had an interactive black board where people could write their ideas about Sustainability and Transition and creative "Recipes" for community building. We worked in partnership with our colleagues of Transition Plymouth Food group, who provided a delicious range of seasonal food, with a local map of where local sourced food can be found in Plymouth. As with the rest of Transition Plymouth initiatives, this was an open and FREE event that we all enjoyed. We deeply thank Joanna Caballero and Pat Bushell for their support in the working group for this event.
PARENTS IN TRANSITION - started with plans for a "Green Parenting" event but after a few meetings, the people involved decided to organise as a new working group. It is about a "Green/Ecological/Transitioning vision for Parents" and it is about exploring and supporting the needs of mothers, fathers or careers who want to raise their children with a vision of "sustainability/caring-for-the-future", in the consumerist and "not-so-child-friendly" society we live in.
We have started a facebook group, to keep the dialogue open. If you are interested in being part or supporting this group in any way, please let us know, through our get in touch page :)
